There are cats that live at the river house, too. Although they're not quite as thrilled with the river as the dog is, they do enjoy napping in the garden and going for walks in the woods. Our current river cats are Mr. Grinch, Mickey Mouser, Jack. and Kira.
Mr. Grinch is the eldest, and is quite the gentleman. Very dapper with his white goatee and gloves, he's always polite. He can be very insistent when he wants attention, as he sits next to you, purrs, and claws your shirt until you pet him, but it's always done with style. The only time he defers his dignity is when he naps with abandon. At fifteen, Mr. Grinch is far older than the other cats, who are four, three, and one. Mickey Mouser came to the riverhouse from the shelter. Her name is Mickey Mouser because she has an outline of the Sorcerer Mickey shape on her back and thigh with her black tail completing the hat. Mickey likes to lay on the desk in front of the monitor when I work, so we always do the "no, you can't lay here now" dance.
Jack is a big boy at three years old. He followed Mickey home one night for dinner. . . .and decided the eats were good so he was staying. That was several years and ten pounds ago, so I don't think he's leaving anytime in the near future. He's the lover of the group, which is quite a load when he decides to take up space in your lap, since he takes up all of your lap!
The baby of the family is Kira. She's a year old now. She is the nosiest of the cats now, always into something, and is way too smart for her own good. For example, she's figured out how to get a drink from the water cooler. She knows the sound of the whipped cream canister (she's a whipped cream junkie!).She also loves playing jungle kitty in all the house plants. She may be the baby, but she's already two inches longer than the rest of all the cats. She's going to be a big Maine coon cat!
This is what treat time always looks like. All you have to do is open a pounce can, and there they are! Copyright © 2004 riverdog design, All rights reserved. |
